Juni Rocket Racer Rebel Cortez is the male and the main protagonist of the Spy Kids series. He is an agent of the OSS's Spy Kids Division, the son of Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez, and the younger brother of Carmen Cortez. He is one of the two main protagonists of Spy Kids and Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams, the main protagonist Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, and a supporting character in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.
Appearance
He has red hair that is curly and untrimmed, brown eyes and pale skin with some freckles. In the first movie, he is seen wearing bandadges around his fingers, which bears warts. Carmen teases him about these.
In the third film, Juni's appearance has matured, by dressing like a private-eye detective and his hair now short and gelled into a tapered-cut.
In the fourth movie, he had some child-like traits left in him ever since he stayed as a spy, even to the point where his hair is hair is curly and untrimmed again.
History
Spy Kids
In Spy Kids, Juni, like Carmen, had no idea his parents were secret agents. Carmen acted as a bully to him when she baby-sat him, an example when she forces him to climb the monkey bars everyday and kicks him while he hangs from it, causing him to fall on his face. He is very self-conscious, and is obsessed with the television show, Floop's FoOglies and even has the action figures and draws his own FoOglies.
When Juni finds out that Floop is really a criminal mastermind that had kidnapped his parents, he adjusts to the news surprisingly well. As a result, Carmen begins to respect Juni more on their quest and gets her back for calling him names by calling her "diaper lady" because of her bed wetting problem. It was shown within the first two movies that Juni is able to mimic another person's voice (and laugh) perfectly as his mother taught him.
Juni was called weak and defenseless, but rescued his parents, and saved the world and Juni is quite a hero and not scared anymore. Juni has warts on his fingers and has to put a wart killer and band-aids on his fingers. But got over his fears of everything.
Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams
In Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams, Juni develops his first crush on the President of the United States' daughter Alexandra. There is a great deal of conflict between Juni and Gary Giggles due to Carmen's romantic interest in Gary. When Gary tries to take the Transmooker from Juni, the Transmooker is later stolen by Magna Men. Gary blames Juni for the theft. As a result, Juni gets fired from the OSS and loses postion of their Best Spy Kid Ever. However, Carmen hacks him back into the organization so they can recover the Transmooker and gets him back his Level 2 badge. After they successfully save the Transmooker from Donnagon Giggles, Gary's father, Juni quits the OSS. Juni's robotic pet spider, R.A.L.P.H., is first shown in this movie near the beginning sections, but is later squashed by Gary Giggles, after he is sent to spy over him and his sister during the briefing of the Ukata Assignment.
Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over
In Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, Juni is in retirement from his spy days. He works as a private detective, and usually gets money for people by his rank: $4.99. He spends time in the treehouse with R.A.L.P.H. and his Spidermonkey from the Ukata assignment. Juni comes out of retirement after the President of the United States tell him that his sister is missing. He must go to the OSS to rescue his sister from her failed mission to shut down the video game, Game Over, only to learn that the Toymaker has taken control of Carmen's mind. Juni finds her, but it is no accident as he tries to read her mind and when she says her foot stinks, he knows she is near. The toymaker is manipulating Juni and the others, because of his interest in Juni's grandfather. Despite this, or rather because of this, Juni and the others manage to save the day by defeating/helping the Toymaker. Juni meets a girl named Demetra and develops a crush on her, until he learns she was the Deceiver; a player sent to manipulate others into falling for Toymaker's traps. She apologizes to him and Juni, his sister, and the rest of the agents escape the OSS.
Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World
In Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, Juni is seen assisting the new younger Spy Kids. He is grown up and came back to help them get time back after he was in retirement. Carmen is upset because Juni never called or told her where he was. He said he tried to strike out on his own and struck out. He continued to say he left because he thought that it wouldn't be cool to keep working with his sister. Carmen replies that was what would have made him cool. Juni is still slightly immature because when Carmen was frozen he made her pick her nose, and then took a picture of it. At the end, they become co-leaders of the new Spy Kids program.
Personality
At first, Juni was shy, had no self-confidence, and in general a total scaredy-cat. Life had frightened him so much his palms had been permanently sweaty, which then led to warts. He would spent much of his life covering his hands with band-aids and hanging his head in shame. Once he and his sister saved their parents, Juni had grown more confident. Of the two siblings, he’s the most creative and trusts his instincts. Despite his age, Juni has a fairly intelligent mind, such as when he figured out that his parents wanted the Third Brain destroyed, though he's not at the level of Carmen's intelligence. Being rather young, Juni is still somewhat childish and immature, can be naïve when dealing with things he does not fully comprehend, and is a bit of a klutz. Even though Carmen does get on his nerves at times, he still cares about her, as when Devlin wanted Juni to return to the OSS and mentioned his sister was missing, he came back to rescue Carmen. In fact, his sister being threatened or hurt is one of the few things that manage to bring out his more serious side. Despite his immaturity, Juni does have a sense of honour and respect, especially around the President and Devlin.
Abilities
Much like his father and uncle, Juni is seen displaying amazing feats of Karate and physical ability, and appears to be adept in ballet, as seen in Spy Kids 2.[1] He is also good at stealth and infiltration. He is also skilled at hand-to-hand combat and weapon expertise.[1] His most unusual ability is to perfectly mimic other people’s voices, which he inherited from his mother Ingrid.[2] He is also skilled in cooking, first made apparent in Mucho Madness.[3] After passing through the treasure room, he gained the ability to speak telepathically with his sister Carmen.[1]
Relationships
Carmen Cortez
Originally, the two had a competitive relationship that did not leave them on good terms. Carmen constantly called him names and putting him down with Juni not being able to do anything about it. Eventually it comes to a head with Juni calling Carmen a name. Not long after, they worked out their problems while fighting their doppelgangers.
After the first movie, their relationship had drastically improved with the two working together well and both willing to do anything to protect each other.
Gregorio Cortez
Gregorio is a secret agent and the father of Juni Cortez.
Ingrid Cortez
Like Juni's father, Ingrid Cortez is a secret agent and the mother of Juni Cortez.
Isador "Machete" Cortez
Isadora is the uncle of Juni Cortez. He specializes in spy gadgets.

Trivia
- In Spy-Kids 3-D, Juni's in-game color code is "fool's gold", this is a foreshadow on being seen as "The Guy" but turned out to be a rumor the whole time after the true guy has been revealed, he wears similar battle-armor to Juni, but it's made of real silver.
- Juni's middle names (Rocket, Racer, and Rebel) are references to Robert Rodriguez's actual sons. All three did stunts on Spy Kids 2 and were given thanks in the Spy Kids credits; Rocket's thanks was under his middle name, Valentino.
- Carmen and Juni's ages has been stated multiple times, albeit from semi-official sources, but nothing official has been said.
- In the August 1999 cast draft[4] and April 2000 revised draft[5] of Spy Kids and the April 2001 issue of Disney Adventures, they were said to be 9 and 6, but in the novelization and storybook, their ages appeared to be solidified at 10 and 8.
- In the Adventures books, their ages are said to be 12 and 10.
