Juni Cortez, codenamed Aztec, is one of the main protagonists of Spy Kids: Mission Critical.
Appearance[]
In Spy Kids: Mission Critical, Juni appears similar to Juni in the films. He has curly red hair and pale skin. The only change in appearance is his eye color, which is brown in the films and green in the animated show, and he lacks a gap in his front teeth which caused some controversy.
History[]
Mission Critical[]
His first appearance is when he snatches a burrito from his sister Carmen Cortez. She later helps her brother save their mother and father from S.W.A.M.P. agents. After realizing that they won because the agents didn't know their fighting styles because there was no files of them that Golden Brain had, Ingrid and Gregorio Cortez decide to make a team of teenage spies known as Mission Critical, with Carmen and Juni as co-leaders.
Carmen and Juni can't decide on how they to recruit members to the team because Camren wants to have strategic member while Juni wants to have members who "kick butt". Juni decides on choosing Sir Awesome (because of his super spy skills) and Scorpion (because of her acrobatic skills) to be on the team. Had Juni not chosen Scorpion, Carmen would have been able to choose an additional member to the team. During training practice, Carmen and Juni can't get the team to do any task in the training room because they keep arguing whether to be evasive or attack.
They were temporarily kicked off the team by their parents until they can compromise, but went on a mission behind their parents backs with all members of Mission Critical. On their first mission out, Juni learns that Ace has a fear of birds and comments on how he knew Ace couldn't be that "perfect". But then the whole team work together to stop the S.W.A.M.P. agents trucks and they succeed in stopping them. When they get back to OSS headquarters, he agrees to compromise with Carmen. She said that if he is going to be on her team then he is going to need to brush up on some battle tactics. Then Juni says that if she is going to be on his team then she is going to need to cool code name and calls her "Tango". She agrees and calls him by his codename "Aztec". Juni then tried to tell Carmen about what he learned about Ace and Carmen scoffs at him to stop. The episode ends with the whole team (and Tom Thumb Thumb) taking a self together on Glitch's tablet.
School Dazed[]
The episode starts off in the boys’ dorm room where Juni is awoken by snoring so loud that the room is shaking. He looks around to find that Ace is the one making all the noise. A mysterious yellow-green vile falls on Juni because of the snoring but Juni ignores it and he tries to go back to sleep.
Next time we see Juni he is sluggish during training with the team and is seen constantly yawning. He is almost hit with a laser when Carmen saves him.
