Miramax, LLC (also known as Miramax Films) is an American film production and distribution company founded in 1979. It was a leading independent film company before it was bought by the Walt Disney Company in 1993, in the company’s first acquisition.[1]

Miramax owned the distribution rights to Spy Kids, Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams, and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, while the Weinstein Company distributed Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.

Miramax was sold by Disney to Filmyard Holdings in late 2010, ending Disney's 17-year ownership of the studio.[2][3] The home video rights to most of Miramax's films were later sold to Lionsgate Entertainment in early 2011.[4][5] Later that year, Lionsgate re-released the first three Spy Kids films on Blu-ray on August 2, 2011[6], for the tenth anniversary of the franchise and to coincide with the fourth film's release the same month, as well as a Triple Feature set released on November 15, 2011.[7]

In 2016, the company was sold to the beIN Media Group.[8][9] In 2019, beIN agreed to sell a 49% stake in the company to ViacomCBS, with Paramount Pictures gaining exclusive worldwide distribution rights to its library.[10] Paramount and Miramax will also co-produce new content based on titles from the library.[11] The sale was completed on April 3, 2020.[12] As a result, the Triple Feature set was reissued and rereleased on September 22, 2020.
