SPLASH. EXTERIOR, “THE BUCKAROO BORIS RODEO ROUNDUP,” DAY.
Somewhere in a small Latin American country, CARMEN and JUNI CORTEZ are attending a rodeo with their GRANDFATHER. Juni is eating chocolates out of a hi-tech lunch box, which can replicate any kind of candy. He and Carmen are listening as their grandfather explains that he’s actually brought them to the rodeo on a Spy Kids mission to investigate enemy agents posing as rodeo clowns. He’ll leave them their bikes and monitor from nearby. In the arena we can see a BULL throwing a RIDER. But this Bull doesn’t just throw the rider--he catapults him with impossible strength right toward the part of the arena where our heroes are sitting. Two RODEO CLOWNS are running out to distract the bull away from the downed rider.
From a special arena-side box, Rodeo owner BUCKAROO BORIS plays announcer, noting with some pleasure that nobody seems to be able to stay on his bulls lately. Boris is a bearded Russian in his early sixties. Somehow, he manages to look shifty while wearing a comical, oversized cowboy hat.
CARMEN and JUNI watch as two wacky RODEO CLOWNS lead the very large and scary BULL away from the dazed RIDER lying on the ground. Our heroes are determined to find out what these spy clowns might be up to.
PAGE TWO[]
CARMEN and JUNI approach a group of three RODEO CLOWNS hanging around near a large building. Carmen’s innocently asking to have their picture taken with the clowns. Juni accidentally drops his special lunch box when he trips on a pair of oversized clown shoes near a pile of clown gear.
As one of the CLOWNS is rudely dismissing CARMEN and telling her to get lost, ANOTHER CLOWN picks up JUNI’S open lunch box and is amazed to see lots of candy pour out of it. Among the pieces of candy is a chocolate bar which seems to be too long to have ever fit inside the lunch box in the first place. The helpful clown immediately becomes suspicious, particularly when he reads the “Another fine Machete Product” label on the lunch box.
CARMEN and JUNI are backed up against the wall of the building by the menacing clowns who, being enemy agents, know that only a Spy Kid would carry a hi-tech Machete lunch box.
CARMEN and JUNI are shocked when the wall of the building their backs are against suddenly spins around, taking them into the building.
PAGE THREE[]
When the spinning wall stops, CARMEN and JUNI are inside a hi-tech genetics lab. Two more RODEO CLOWNS guard them as they are approached by BUCKAROO BORIS, who’s now wearing a lab coat—and that silly cowboy hat. Boris greets his spy captives and decides to reveal his plans to them since there’s just no possible way they will ever escape!
BORIS shows CARMEN and JUNI two glass-doored isolation chambers. In the left one is a normal bull. In the right one is a genetically engineered bull which is bigger, stronger, faster and more viscous than any normal bull.
Turning to a bank of large view screens, BORIS shows CARMEN and JUNI an image of a huge stockade full of giant bulls. Next to it is the image of the country’s capital, which the bulls will be driven toward in a Super Stampede that will spread chaos in the city.
The images on the view screens dissolve as BORIS receives a video call from a typical Latin American DICTATOR. It’s Boris’ partner, who will seize control of the government after the stampede. Boris leers menacingly at CARMEN and JUNI as he reports to his partner that he will release the Super Stampede--just as soon as he takes care of a little unfinished business.
PAGE FOUR[]
MINUTES LATER, OUTSIDE, CARMEN and JUNI are tied to a striped rodeo clown barrel in the corner of the arena. A pile of rodeo clown gear lies next to them, and they’ve been dressed a bit like rodeo clowns, with funny hair, a big bow tie, noses, and a dab or two of makeup. (“You Spy Kids make me laugh!”) Just out of reach on the ground is Juni’s lunch box. From the other side of the arena fence, BORIS tells the spies that he must leave to release the Super Stampede, but not to worry, he’s arranged a Small Stampede just for them…
CARMEN and JUNI watch as a BULL comes charging straight at them. Carmen is struggling with her ropes. She could get loose if only she had a few more seconds. Juni is trying to reach his lunch box with one foot. “You’re thinking of candy at a time like this?” scolds Carmen.
Thinking fast, JUNI slips his foot into a nearby clown shoe. It is so comically long that it allows him to kick over his lunch box, spilling another impossibly large pile of candy onto the ground in front of the charging BULL. The animal’s eyes turn toward the candy immediately.
As the BULL screeches to a halt and begins munching on the candy, CARMEN begins to get free of her ropes. She makes a quip about super bulls having super sweet tooths and then realizes that they’ll have to get that lunch box back if they’re going to stop the stampede.
PAGE FIVE[]
EXTERIOR, COUNTRYSIDE, as CARMEN and JUNI ride Rocketbikes (which have wheels like a regular bike, but also engines which propel the bike a few feet off the ground) to intercept the Super Stampede. They’re still wearing bits of the clown gear, but not too much, since we want our heroes to look fairly heroic. Juni has his lunch box and he’s munching on a piece of chocolate as Carmen asks him what the biggest piece of candy he could get out of it is.
Yeehaw! BUCKAROO BORIS is riding the lead BULL as the Super Stampede approaches the distant capital. A couple of the RODEO CLOWNS ride nearby bulls. We can see CARMEN and JUNI ahead of the Stampede, coming in at a right angle to them. Carmen tells Juni to head straight for the lead bull, all the others will follow it.
BORIS reacts with shock as CARMEN and JUNI ride by his BULL. They are pulling a four-foot chocolate Easter bunny between them in an effort to use the bulls’ weakness for sweets to divert the stampede.
BORIS fights to keep his BULL on the right path, but the animal is too strong—and so is its sweet tooth. “Come get the yummy bunny!” says CARMEN as she and JUNI lead the stampede away from the capital.
PAGE SIX[]
CARMEN and JUNI lean over the front of their rocketbikes and try to decide where to lead the Super Stampede, which is following very close behind. They both agree there’s really only one place to take it…
Minutes later, CARMEN and JUNI have led the Super Stampede back home to rampage through “Buckaroo Boris’ Rodeo Roundup and Genetics Lab.” The big animals are making a mess of the place trying to get at the chocolate rabbit, which Carmen and Juni have finally released. But what happened to Boris, they wonder…
Nearby, BORIS covers his face with his arms as the Bull he’s riding is about to run through a doorway which is wide enough for the bull but low enough that it will take off Boris’ head. What he doesn’t notice is the HOOK which drops into the panel from above to catch the back of his clothing.
When BORIS realizes that he hasn’t been clobbered, he looks up and sees that he’s been pulled up into the air on a line attached to a winch on GRANDPA CORTEZ’S flying wheelchair. They recognize each other from the old days and Boris concedes that after all these years, Grandpa has gotten the better of him.
INSERT the image of GREGORIO, on a video communicator, asking why the kids are so late coming home. The rest of the panel shows CARMEN, JUNI and GRANDPA laughing as they look at the communicator, where Gregorio (who can see how the kids still look) is telling the kids that they need to quit “clowning around” and get home where there’s serious work to be done!
