"Thought I ditched you." — Carmen Cortez
As you can tell, this article is a ditched stub. You can help the Spy Kids Wiki by expanding this article.

Valentin Avellán is the father of Ingrid Cortez, and thus, the maternal grandfather of Carmen and Juni Cortez, and the husband of Helga Avellán. He is a supporting character in Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams and the deuteragonist of Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over.

Over 30 years before the events of the Spy Kids films, Valentin was an agent of the OSS alongside his comrade, Sebastian. One day however, before Sebastian was sent to the virtual world, he injured Valentin to a point of placing him in a wheelchair.

Some time later, he and his wife Helga both retired and became parents to Ingrid. Due to his injury, however, he was unable to attend his daughter's birth and eventual wedding.

Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams[]

As the family travel the sea to track the kids, the kids destroy the trackers on them and they believe they lost them. However, Valentin asked if Juni still has the necklace that he gave him as a present, as his daughter confirms it. Valentin reveals he had a tracker placed in the necklace and they are able to continue tracking the kids as a result.

Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over[]

In Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, Valentin was sent into the dangerous virtual world of the video game, Game Over, by his grandson, Juni, in order to save his granddaughter, Carmen. She is being held by Valentin's old partner, the Toymaker, who was the reason for his handicap (which the Toymaker also blaming himself for this and felt geniune guilt for betraying his friend). When he was given the Mega Legs powerup, he was granted the ability to use his legs again. Valentin immediately wasted no time in running with his legs and noted he felt alive with his legs again. In the end, it was revealed that Valentin's real reason for finding the Toymaker was to help him come to terms with his guilt and offer him a chance at redemption as he forgives the Toymaker for his crime and genuinely changes his ways for good.

Valentin is more level-headed and reasonable with compared to his wife, whose backseat driving is a common source of annoyance with Ingrid. He is also very close to his grandchildren and a good friend to Sebastian, even after his injury.
